When you tell an atheist that you will “pray for him” that is as offensive as an atheist telling you that he will “think rationally for you.”

Principal Miller … My son has played ball since he was 4… some in florida and later now in New Mexico. the best coaches pray at practice and it is a minute for the boys to stop and focus and be thankful. Let the coach pray with the boys. How in the world can anyone ever say, “prayer…its a bad idea!” GIVE ME A BREAK> Coach, I wish i was there to support you and prayer. anytime in this life if you can do something and no can say ,” oh, that’s gonna screw everything up….” then do it.. Prayer cannot hurt!!! and believe me I have seen families and coaches and coaches families and teams that do pray! those are winning teams!!!!

I see that you don’t understand the actual problem and are arguing against something no one said. If you’d like to join the actual discussion or offer anything of actual value please feel free to do so.

If you do not believe, (in Jesus Christ) there should be no reason for these prayers to bother you. If you are atheists, you dont believe, therefore you shouldn’t be afraid or even bothered by something that you and your group don’t see as real. Live your own life as you will, we as Christians will continue to pray for you all.

A few things were lost in translation, but the point of the letter from the American Atheists was to stop/prevent the coaches from participating in the team prayers.

At the beginning of the season, the coaches were a part of the prayer, and even led the prayer on more than 1 occasion. That’s what the problem was. The coaches aren’t allowed to even participate. That’s not a personal opinion, that’s Federal Law.

After Mr. Miller spoke to the baseball coach(es), they stopped participating (for the most part), and then the entire prayer became student organized. There were a few pictures posted online that clearly showed the coaching staff participating in the prayer, but those were from a few weeks ago. The most recent pictures, the coaches are not partaking in the team prayer.

As long as the prayer is organized by the players on the team, and the coaches do NOT participate, the American Atheists will have no issue. Overall, they don’t see the point to praying, but that has nothing to do with this issue.

The Atheists were “offended” by the prayer. They were simply trying to make sure the coaches kept their distance.

After reading through, and responding to many of the comments below, I saw a lot of people who began arguing about something else. Many of those who are Christians, began to get defensive and spout very hateful speech, which is shame. They weren’t acting very “Christian like”.

At the end of the day, I hope anyone reading this understands the Atheists were not trying to “remove” or “prevent” the students from praying. It was all about the coaches.

At one time the majority in this country wanted slavery. Did that make it right? The problem is it’s the state’s
sanctioning a particular religion. The message is if you are not this religion you are not really part of this country. The state should be neutral to religion and allow each individual to decide for themselves. This is a PUBLIC school. I am sure if he was having Muslim prayers you would think very differently. Think about others besides your own view point for once. Thank you.

If a Muslim teacher was leading children at your child’s public school in Muslim prayers, would you do something to stop it, or would you just accept it? Why is it wrong for atheists to demand that the law be followed? Why aren’t YOU demanding that the law be followed? Why do you support the law being ignored? Is that the example you want set for your kids? That you don’t have to follow the law if you are in the majority?
