On Monday, the Missouri Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee will hold a hearing on HB 728, a bill specifically aimed at undermining the separation of religion and government.
The entire purpose of this bill is to make it more difficult for organizations like American Atheists to enforce the Establishment Clause and protect everyone’s constitutional rights.
We urgently need your help—please tell committee members that this is not acceptable!
Missouri lawmakers need to hear from constituents that you oppose this terrible legislation. This may be our last chance—this bill has already passed the Missouri House!
This dangerous bill would put plaintiffs who stand up for the separation of religion and government at risk by preventing them from bringing cases anonymously. It would treat these plaintiffs differently from other litigants, who may bring cases under a pseudonym if the lawsuit would put them at risk.
Sadly, we at American Atheists know how dangerous religious extremists can be when we enforce our constitutional rights in court.
Our Founder, Madalyn Murray O’Hair, had her house burned down when she dared to challenge Christian privilege!
This bill seeks to weaponize public harassment in order to prevent people from enforcing their rights. That is unconstitutional and un-American.
