Mike has been an atheist all of his life. He is a long-time secular activist and a former president of the Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH), a regional secularist organization and an affiliate of American Atheists that is active in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. He was part of the team that organized the first Reason Rally in Washington, DC in 2012. He recently retired from the aerospace field where for many years he worked on multiple robotic space missions that explored our Solar System. He is an avid science and history enthusiast and amateur astronomer. He also likes to attend science fiction conventions, often in costume. Mike’s primary activist goals are to protect the separation of church and state, protect the integrity of science curricula in public schools and public institutions, help provide a local community for secular people, fight censorship, communicate science to the public, and promote rationalism and critical thinking.
