Washington, DC—Yesterday, American Atheists submitted comments opposing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s proposal to collect data on abstinence-only sex education. American Atheists takes issue with this data collection, since its purpose is to promote the religiously inspired form of sexual education now known as sexual risk avoidance (SRA).
“We agree with the many organizations organizations advocating to defund SRA problems,” wrote Alison Gill, Vice President for Legal and Policy. “An SRA approach to sexual education […] is widely rejected by healthcare professionals and adolescent health experts because it is harmful.”
