Atheists Announce New Convention Speakers, Free Military Memberships, & Childcare Registration

Cranford, NJ—On Wednesday, American Atheists announced new speakers to its star-studded roster for the largest annual atheist event in the country. The new speakers include Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers, Survivor®: Fiji reality-television contestant and tech executive Yau-Man Chan, and atheist & feminist activist Beth Presswood.

Additionally, members of the armed forces will receive a free one-year membership with convention registration. Families who will attend the convention are now able to register their children for subsidized child care and day camp at www.atheists.org/convention2014/childcare; the childcare options will be provided by Play Action Parties of California.

The organization also announced that YouTube sensation Jaclyn Glenn will be the “on-the-scenes reporter” interviewing speakers and attendees for American Atheists’ weekly public access television show, The Atheist Viewpoint.

“American Atheists continues to highlight the breadth and diversity of the atheist community,” said President David Silverman. “Atheists are everywhere; all Americans know more atheists than they think. You already like us. With our 2014 national convention, we demonstrate that the atheist community is your community; we’re a growing part of the fabric of America.”

The American Atheists’ 40th National Convention will take place April 17-20 in Salt Lake City. The convention will feature speakers such as former NFL punter Chris Kluwe, Survivor®: Philippines winner Denise Stapley, Grammy-nominated Spin Doctors bass player Mark White, Reverend Barry Lynn of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, Maryam Namazie of the Council of Ex-Muslims, popular bloggers PZ Myers and Greta Christina, and American Atheists President David Silverman. The convention will also feature a costume party, live music, stand-up comedy, an art show and silent auction, national and local exhibitors, and childcare options for attending families.
